He usually composes music for the films that his brother either produced or directed. He is the first music director who made superstar Amitabh Bachchan to sing. He shot to fame with the score for Julie (1975 film) for which he won the Filmfare Best Music Director Award. He had a successful association with Basu Chatterjee, Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar. Rajesh Roshan had learnt music at a very young age.
